叶浥|Ye Yi
Ye Yi is an artist, independent researcher, and writer. Working across photography, moving image, writing, field research, and publishing, she examines how people are defined and reduced through everyday practices of looking, classifying, and recording. Beginning with bodily gestures, forms of labour, and material traces, she attends to experiences that exceed categories of occupation, gender, bodily form, or ethnic identity.
Rooted in independent publishing and art book fairs across East Asia, Ye’s practice has expanded into public conversations, workshops, and collaborative projects. She approaches artistic practice through research, editing, and reconfiguration, bringing overlooked experiences, labour, and memory into new relations. At its ethical centre is the dignity and irreducibility of a person.
Her long-term research is grounded in local communities, vernacular practices, and women’s experiences in Southwest China. She focuses on situated and embodied forms of knowledge beyond dominant writing systems and formal archives, examining how they are transmitted through everyday practice, oral accounts, and material experience. She develops visual archives that ask what becomes visible, what remains unrecorded, and how ways of seeing shape cultural memory.
